Quiet Luxury: Succession vs. Real Housewives an observation on less is more
By Amber Seagraves
During a well-deserved winter break as we step into the new year, I’ve found myself indulging in a mix of TikTok escapades and my guilty pleasures—Real Housewives and Succession (no judgment please!). Both exhibit luxury in excess. The stark contrast in the portrayal of luxury struck me: the unabashed opulence of Dorit Kemsley and Lisa Barlow, adorned in labels and logos on Real Housewives, versus Succession's Kendall Roy, sporting a logo-less $600 Loro Piana cashmere baseball cap.
This caused a deeper contemplation on the essence of design and luxury. In a world clamoring with noise and flash, the concept of "Quiet Luxury" has taken root in my mind. This edition of INSPIRE | DESIGN aims to explore this understated elegance, drawing inspiration from my fashion design roots and recent reflections.
Succession (RIP), a show that has captured our attention, embodies the discreet charm of quality without the need for conspicuous logos. This subtle, refined approach to opulence is what we at Studio Seagraves embrace—a philosophy reflected in every aspect of our work.

I've compiled a list of my favorite quiet luxury brands, each embodying the principles we hold dear at Studio Seagraves. From The Row's minimalism to Loro Piana's timeless elegance, these brands inspire us to create digital experiences that are equally enduring.
-
THE ROW
Exceptional fabrics, impeccable details, and precise tailoring. The cult brand of The Row, a label established in 2006 by former child stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Masters of rebranding and marketing they elude interviews and charge $10k for a cashmere coat.

-
LORO PIANA
True luxury begins at the materials level. This is evident to anyone who's slipped on a merino wool sweater or leather baseball cap from Loro Piana.
-
BOTTEGA VENATA
This luxury brand has been crafting understated handbags with its iconic intrecciato leather since the mid-sixties before the term ‘quiet luxury’ existed.
-
CELINE
Established in 1945 by Céline Vipiana and currently owned by LVMH, Celine conveys French sophistication. To radiate quiet luxury, opt for their logo-less styles. Take a cue from Succession, not Real Housewives ;)

Wishing you a 2024 filled with prosperity.
